It draws its name from the nearby oil fields. Notably, the Glenn Pool Field is noted to be one of the world’s largest oil fields. The town was first created after the oil strike in 1905. The place’s founding came with Wildcatter Robert Galbreath in 1901. After meeting with Robert Glenn and noticing an oil-soaked limestone ridge, Galbreath became confident that the oil field was much larger than he initially thought. In the year 1905, he procured a lease from Robert and Ida E. Glenn which allowed him to drill for oil over a larger expanse of land. He struck oil and Glenn Pool Field became one of the Southwest’s largest oil finds.
After this initial lucky find, more residents came to Glenpool to settle down and work the oil fields.
